Westport Saloon: Home for Bluegrass in Kansas City
Every Wednesday night at 9pm, the Westport Saloon welcomes Kansas City’s own, Grassfed, for their Pickin’ and Fishin’, the best bluegrass in Kansas City. Although Wednesday’s are Grassfed’s home, they have also brought their bluegrass tunes to Kansas City for
the Westport Roots Festival and other Kansas City bluegrass jams. Grassfed is made up of Cameron Keeling (mandolin), David Megli (banjo), Jake Keegan (dobro), Josh Keegan (guitar), and A.J. Gaither (bass). But on Wednesday nights, they are joined by other Kansas City bluegrass players and lovers. To pair with your bluegrass tunes, The Westport Saloon has $3 Lagunitas and American Born Moonshine drink special. And now, Eat Me Gourmet is offering a $12 catfish dinner special.
As for bluegrass in Kansas City, The Westport Saloon houses many bluegrass groups, including Whiskey for the Lady, Kansas City Hustle, and The Ready Brothers; all of which played at the Westport Roots Festivall this past May and play regularly at the Saloon.
When talking about bluegrass in Kansas City, Jake Keegan says, “The Westport Saloon is a great place to play music for multiple genres.” But he says he chooses bluegrass because “it pays homage to, but also preserves tradition.”
The Westport Saloon offers live music seven nights a week. On top of that, The Westport Saloon, Little Class Records, Middle Class Records and The Westport Roots Festival collaborate with the music community to bring bluegrass, and other Roots music to the forefront in Kansas City.
Keegan say, “The staff feels like family. The Saloon feels like home, and it is a privilege to bring bluegrass to Kansas City. We are just a bunch of friends that are lucky enough to play and travel together to spread bluegrass awareness.”
