Lou Shields, Joe’s Truck Stop

9pm

Lou Shields

Lou Shields continues the tradition of American music with a solo-performance that pulls in styles of days-gone-by. Using his 1931 National Resonator Guitar or Banjo accompanied by a unique front porch style of foot percussion and harmonica, he uses his voice as an extension of the past. Lou carries a full sound during live performances while sharing stories, thoughts and experiences with the audience. He has toured throughout the United States and Europe for over 8 years and has released 4 full-length albums and 13 EP’s.

Lou grew up in Chicago, living downtown or in the South Suburbs his entire life. While downtown he owned an art gallery in Pilsen at 18th and Halsted. Lou often creates his art from experiences on the road. He will take a picture of an old home in Mississippi and then draw it later. He exhibits his art in Gallery shows or sells prints out of his merch box. He often blends his art and music by creating album art and show posters for himself and other musicians. In addition to being an artist, Lou is also a Professor of Art at a college in the Chicago-area. He enjoys teaching young students about art appreciation and art history a few days a week.

Joe’s Truck Stop

We’re a Country Blues band from Cincinnati, OH mixing Bluegrass drive, Honky Tonk swing, Old Time fiddling, Rockabilly riffs, and whatever else spurs our inspiration. We meld it all together with traditional vocal harmonies, tight arrangements, and hot picking, all the while maintaining a strong focus on lyric writing and story telling.

The songs are stories of travelling, love, temptation, heartbreak, family, banjo pickin’ tobacco spittin’ women, gas station sushi, and so much more…

We’ve released a handful of self recorded demos and two studio albums, the Free Showers EP in 2014 and American Dreams, which came out in May 2018 to very positive reception.

The Westport Saloon

Located in Kansas City’s historic Westport District, The Westport Saloon has become a midwest haven for the underground. Roots, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Blues, Blues Rock, Folk, Rockabilly, and that Twang you live for.

Like the settlers of Westport, we work tirelessly to bring amazing names to our stage. Over the years we have hosted acts such as Wayne “the Train” Hancock, Dale Watson, Moe Brandy, JD Wilkes, Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band,  The Goddamn Gallows, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies, Luke Bell, The Hooten Hallers, Carries Nation and the Speakeasy and so many more.

Like the settlers of Westport, we are also known for our whiskey. Overtime, and as tastes have changed, we have amassed quite the collection to keep your glass filled and you coming back. Saloons predate prohibition establishments, when drinks were uncomplicated, not pretentious and hearty.  It’s alright to be heavy on the bourbon and Scotch – we don’t judge.
