Pale Fire Kings, Grand Marquis

8pm: Pale Fire Kings

Pale Fire Kings is a Kansas City based band that plays a unique brand of music blending Americana, rock, R&B, and funk influences. You will find streaming audio of our latest live studio recording below. Our earlier work is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, and a variety of media streaming services.

10pm: Grand Marquis

“Mumbling secrets to a flummoxed doorman, slipping dead presidents into his hand, then past the dark door, all speakeasy-like. Through the walls, the crack and thud of drums, the crisp punch of an upright bass slapping time, horns thriving on the riff, guitar wailing testimonials that would coax Trouble to check his bags at the door. The Grand Marquis are guardians of a musical portal, weaving catchy originals with classy covers. Music meteorologists, if you will, concocting their own brand of weathered styles. It’s old-school jump blues, rockabilly and fiery jazz balled up into one big hit of red hot Rhythm ‘n’ Roll. Once injected, don’t be alarmed; you might see through blurry eyes and nicotine haze the ghosts of America’s musical past, conjuring delusions of 30’s KC, 50’s Memphis, Village hangouts, or the jazz jungle of Harlem. Yet these are merely roots from which their music grows; twisting and blending, melding until you catch a glimpse of things to come. Awaken from the intoxicating fog while their songs linger on your ear, echoing the chant of the Blue Devil, and you’re sure of one thing: you gotta go back for more.” – Lawrence.com

Formed in 1998, Grand Marquis has since become solidly rooted in the Kansas City music scene as one of the hardest-working bands in the region, playing over 100 shows per year! The group has performed from coast to coast, released 8 albums, including a 7″ 45 rpm vinyl record/CD combo recorded at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN. With their own versatile and thoroughly entertaining brand of American Roots, Blues and Prohibition-Era Jazz, the Grand Marquis are consistently finding themselves in high demand.

The Westport Saloon

Located in Kansas City’s historic Westport District, The Westport Saloon has become a midwest haven for the underground. Roots, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Blues, Blues Rock, Folk, Rockabilly, and that Twang you live for.

Like the settlers of Westport, we work tirelessly to bring amazing names to our stage. Over the years we have hosted acts such as Wayne “the Train” Hancock, Dale Watson, Moe Brandy, JD Wilkes, Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band,  The Goddamn Gallows, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies, Luke Bell, The Hooten Hallers, Carries Nation and the Speakeasy and so many more.

Like the settlers of Westport, we are also known for our whiskey. Overtime, and as tastes have changed, we have amassed quite the collection to keep your glass filled and you coming back. Saloons predate prohibition establishments, when drinks were uncomplicated, not pretentious and hearty.  It’s alright to be heavy on the bourbon and Scotch – we don’t judge.
