AJ Gaither, Dewayn Brothers, Bob Kamler Band

March 21 @ 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

AJ Gaither, Dewayn Brothers, Bob Kamler Band

8pm: AJ Gaither

Everything is better when it’s home-made. And it don’t get more down home or DIY than AJ Gaither. From the building of the instruments to the writing of the songs and making of the albums, everything about this “one man junk band” is lo-tech and hands on.

The sound is cold lonely bars and old empty barns, highways and heartaches. From raging high octane foot stompin’ brag songs to slow and soulful songs about struggle and being homesick, every bit of it is drenched in whiskey and hard living.

The instruments are old cigar boxes and scrap lumber, spare bolts and wood screws. Each is one unique in tone and appearance. A large feed bucket and a wooden mallet provide the kick drum, accompanied by a junk snare drum rigged to be played by foot. All built by the same hands that play them.

Often referred to by his peers as “the hardest working musician in Kansas City”, you will be hard pressed to find any solo musical performer that plays as many shows a year and exudes so much energy on stage night after night. The love for his craft is blatantly apparent.

10pm: Dewayn Brothers

The Dewayn Brothers formed in 2001 as a side project for the members of the eclectic jam/rock band, Loco Macheen. Dewayn quickly gained popularity with local and regional audiences. Combining bluegrass standards, vintage country covers, and a fast-paced and rowdy style of original Kansas bluegrass, Dewayn had a sound for just about everyone.

A change in personnel in 2005 opened the door for Dewayn to leave the central U.S. and travel from coast to coast and north to south, bringing the Kansas sound to the entire country.

After five years of touring the country, The Dewayn Brothers hung up their hats to pursue the common things in life: education, families, etc. But in 2014, the group reformed. The line-up is currently four of the original members and a new face, though an old friend on mandolin and fiddle.

12am: The Bob Kamler Band

Miss the classic country sound of yesteryear? Check out the show page and see where the Bob Kamler Band is playing. A classic country feel with lyrically driven tunes that pack a punch are their specialty. Plenty of honky tonkin, beer drinkin covers, intertwined with Bob’s originals to keep you entertained. You will find the great John Hodge on electric guitar, Chris Valencia on fiddle, Jeffro Adams on Bass and Chris Hart keeping the beat.

The Westport Saloon

Located in Kansas City’s historic Westport District, The Westport Saloon has become a midwest haven for the underground. Roots, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Blues, Blues Rock, Folk, Rockabilly, and that Twang you live for.

Like the settlers of Westport, we work tirelessly to bring amazing names to our stage. Over the years we have hosted acts such as Wayne “the Train” Hancock, Dale Watson, Moe Brandy, JD Wilkes, Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band,  The Goddamn Gallows, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies, Luke Bell, The Hooten Hallers, Carries Nation and the Speakeasy and so many more.

Like the settlers of Westport, we are also known for our whiskey. Overtime, and as tastes have changed, we have amassed quite the collection to keep your glass filled and you coming back. Saloons predate prohibition establishments, when drinks were uncomplicated, not pretentious and hearty.  It’s alright to be heavy on the bourbon and Scotch – we don’t judge.
